Thesis

Three Essays on AI Applications in Marketing

Joosten, J.

Doctoral dissertation (Dr. rer. pol.), Universität Passau, in cooperation with TH Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm.

Explores AI applications in marketing through the lens of UX research. Introduces and validates the Digital Empathy (DE) framework, evaluating six contemporary UX research methods — Emotion AI, eye tracking, qualitative interviews, think-aloud protocol, log file analysis, and surveys — across implicit, explicit, and behavioral data dimensions. Demonstrates that triangulating UX research methods with AI enables a richer understanding of user emotion and behavior, advancing both marketing practice and UX design.
